Print Output Instructions

You can submit any image you like as long as it is high-enough quality. If you have vector artwork, it’s best to output it as a PDF. We preflight your files before we go to print, so if we encounter any errors that will impact the quality of the final product we will let you know.

You do not have to submit your files at the final trim size; however, when you look at your image settings, you want to make sure that your picture is at least 300ppi with dimensions at least as big as the final size you want. If it’s smaller than that, then you’re likely to run into quality issues. This screenshot shows an image that was designed at 12.77” x 9.03” at 300ppi. It can be downsampled to any size below that without significantly impacting image quality.

We use a PDF workflow, which means that if you are capable of outputting your file as a PDF when you submit it, we are less likely to run into problems. If you are interested in doing that and using the settings that we do, feel free to click on the programs below for the most optimal results!

Printing seems hard, but with our guidance, weโ€™ll do our best to ensure youโ€™re able to send us excellent files and hopefully demystify the process a little along the way.

Youโ€™ve got this. Letโ€™s get started!

Here’s a tutorial from the printer manufacturer on a good way to add vector cut lines.

SPOT CAT FAQs

What will my final sticker product look like?

You will receive a vinyl sticker that is custom-cut per specifications. The sticker itself will be on a square or rectangle backing like in the photo below:

How should I output my files?

Any image file format will work. We strongly recomend PDFs if possible. We have generated a document outlining the best output settings for three major Adobe products you might use to set up your files above but it is by no means required.

Can I set up my own cut lines?

If you would like to! Just note that if you do, you must do so using a spot color swatch with a vector stroke no wider than 1pt and the spot color MUST be named CutContour (case-sensitive!) Otherwise, just let us know in the “Special Instructions” details how you would like the stickers to cut. If your stroke is rasterized, it will not be recognized as a cut line. (in other words, it can’t be done in Photoshop)

How do I set up a file for holographic stickers?

If you only want a CMYK holographic sticker, you don’t need to do anything special, just know that how holographic it appears depends heavily on how dark your design is. A very dark design would benefit from having high contrast areas with highlights to maximize the effect.

Can you do graphic design?

To a limited degree, yes. We can do basic typesetting, and we can set up files for holographic printing if you have specific requests and don’t feel comfortable doing it on your own.

We are not artists though, so you must arrive with artwork already created.
